    It is easy for someone to say “I can do it myself” and all of a sudden find out they are in over their heads. A good intention, but not well thought out or planned.

    The first core skill a smart and wise handywoman must have is recognize her own limitations and set realistic goals.

    The shape, condition, size and style of your home may determine how much you can do yourself. If your home has high ceilings, a lot of architectural details or simply an older home (Victorian, Italianate, etc.), it may be daunting to tackle projects yourself. A small home with the possibility of transforming into a cozy home also poses its own problems.

    However, no matter what type of home you have, there are certain core skills every woman should have:
